Dominican
Republic shows fire power
MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico, July 19, 2010 – The defending champions
Dominican Republic dominated Barbados in straight sets (25-6,
25-9, 25-6) improving its mark to 2-0 in Pool A of the XXI
Central American and Caribbean Games’ women’s volleyball
tournament. The defeated side fell to 0-2.
Dominicans Prisilla Rivera and Gina Mambru each scored 10 points
while compiling 5 aces apiece. Annerys Vargas and Lisvel Eve
contributed 9 and 8 points respectively to the win.
“It was another day of work for us and we played with
responsibility and respecting the other team,” Dominican
Republic’s coach Marcos Kwiek said. “Our teams are in different
levels but nobody starts from the top so they have to continue
working hard. Tomorrow will be another step for us.”
“We respect all the teams but also try to play our best,”
Dominican Milagros Cabral said. “Our team played focused and
everyone played hard.”
